Jacob's sibling: "Wait a moment, could the CD case be the cursed object? You know... this was one of the get-well gifts that Penny dropped off for Jacob. And she said... she got it from Madam Strout!"
Talbott Winger: "Then this must be the cursed object. It seems it transfers the curse by touch, so be careful not to touch it with your bare hands."
Jacob's sibling: "I'll wrap it up, then, before I take it to the one person who could help us break a complex curse... Professor Flitwick!"

This cursed CD case was a Muggle-manufactured CD case containing get-well songs, that was cursed with the laughing curse. The curse could be spread by touch, inflicting unstoppable laughter in its victims.[1] It was given to Jacob by the Healer Burke, who was secretly an inside agent for R in the hospital, a secret cabal of Dark wizards.[3]

History[]

This cursed CD case was given to Jacob whilst he was hospitalised in St Mungo's as a supposed get-well gift,[1] by the Healer Eustace Burke who was working for R.[3] Healer Miriam Strout was given the CD to give to Jacob.[1] The laughing curse it was bewitched with caused whoever touched it to laugh uncontrollably, with Jacob, Miriam Strout and Penny Haywood (a student apprentice) becoming its victims, much to Jacob's sibling shock and confusion.[4] Merula Snyde warned Jacob's sibling of the curse prior, cryptically telling them something would happen at the hospital that would be "no laughing matter",[4] leading them to become suspicious of her motives.[1]

With Strout bedridden, the hospital became disorderly with her patients becoming restless.[1] Jacob's sibling began searching the hospital for possibly cursed items, initially suspecting a bottle of Pumpkin juice may have been contaminated with Alihotsy Draught, which Professor Snape proved wrong with his analysis of the bottle.[1] Jacob's sibling and Talbott Winger continued to search Jacob's ward, and a mysterious White Swan Patronus[1] (conjured by Miriam Strout)[2] appeared and pointed to the CD case on Jacob's bedside table, with the two then realising that the item was cursed and that the curse spread by touch.[1]

Jacob's sibling then carefully took the CD case to Professor Flitwick,[1] who deduced the best way to destroy it was with the Expulso Curse, which ultimately failed, since the CD case was magically protected, causing Flitwick to become victim to the curse as well in the Charms Classroom.[5]

Jacob's sibling and Corey Hayden then realised Muggle means had to be used to destroy it, with them taking it to the Muggle Studies Professor, Arif Sikander.[5] Professor Sikander suggested scratching the disc with nails to break it, like what Muggles would do, but could not do so as touching it was not an option. Professor Sikander and the students then decided to destroy it in a microwave in the Muggle Studies Classroom, which worked, destroying the CD case and freeing all those affected by the laughing curse.[2]

After the curse was broken, Jacob's sibling, Penny Haywood and Talbott Winger confronted Healer Burke in the Hospital Ward, having uncovered that he was a secret agent of R and had given the CD case to Jacob. He initially denied involvement, but then duelled Jacob's sibling. He was defeated and incapacitated, and then rescued by Verucca Buckthorn-Snyde via Disapparition.[3]
