Cyfrin Hughes was a wizard who attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during the 21st century.

Biography

Cyfrin was born at some point between 1990 and 1997, as he was attending Hogwarts during the same time as an unidentified Muggle-born Hogwarts student. He was quite distrustful of the Hogwarts staff. For instance, he questioned whether or not the magical interference at Hogwarts was real or if it was a story told by the teachers in order to stop Muggle-born students from bringing toys into Hogwarts. He also questioned why Peeves would only obey the Bloody Baron, wondering if the Bloody Baron had knowledge about Peeves that Peeves didn't want getting out. He was also curious as to what Professor Kate Brindlemore was hiding under her robes and also if Mrs Norris was an Animagus.

Behind the scenes

• Cyfrin's theory about Mrs Norris may be a reference to the fact that some readers suspected she was an Animagus, as she has shown unusual intelligence for a cat, however J.K. Rowling has stated more than once that she is just a very unpleasant cat.
