"Legend has it that Dai Ryusaki created a mind-enhancing potion that was super powerful... The potion was deemed dangerous, so Ryusaki was arrested and the potion destroyed! Rumour has it that, before he arrested, Ryusaki was able to hide a Dark Scroll with the potion ingredients. To this day, though, no one knows if the Dark Scroll actually exists... or what its contents may be!"
Corey Hayden informing Jacob's sibling about the legend of the Dark Scroll[src]

The Dark Scroll was a written document in which Dai Ryusaki detailed the ingredients for his supposedly very powerful and dangerous mind-enhancing potion, which he managed to hide before his arrest. As many had tried to locate the Dark Scroll and were unsuccessful, wizards were unsure if it actually existed, and referred to it as the "Legend of Dai Ryusaki and the Dark Scroll".[1]

Contents[]

The Dark Scroll listed all ingredients for Dai Ryusaki's mind-enhancing potion,[1] with each ingredient being represented in the form of a riddle.[2] It included the following:

The legacy in one of eight, those that see all while lying in wait.
One drop from a fang, if you don't first hang.

History[]

At some point in or before the 1990–1991 school year, Jacob located the Dark Scroll in a mountaintop cave in Japan, where he found that it was protected with the dark charm Protego Diabolica, the protective fire of which sprung up around it as a trap, which severely burned Jacob, resulting in seeking treatment at St Mungo's.[1]

Jacob's sibling first was informed of the legend of the Dark Scroll from their history-buff friend Corey Hayden at Hogwarts, and they theorised that their brother had actually found it and had been injured by a dark protective spell. They then went to Albus Dumbledore, where they told him their suspicions, and Dumbledore deduced the spell protecting it was Protego Diabolica, which explained Jacob's severe burns that could not be treated with Burn-Healing Paste. They then went to Healer Miriam Strout at St Mungo's and told them about the spell that had injured Jacob, and she was able to heal Jacob's injuries and save his life. In his hospital bed, Jacob told their sibling how they found the Dark Scroll, but only found one half of it, as it had been ripped in half, which he theorised had been taken by R in order to brew the potion detailed on it for nefarious intentions. He then told Jacob's sibling that he had deduced that one of the potion's ingredients was Chinese Fireball claws, which they agreed with.[1]

The Dark Scroll inside Victor's coffin

Corey Hayden hid the Dark Scroll inside Victor Ketsueki's coffin for safekeeping, without his knowledge. Fred and George Weasley took Victor's coffin as a prank, and hid it inside the Hogwarts kitchens, where they placed a glitter-bomb inside to cover Victor when he opened it. Victor announced the coffin's disappearance to Corey and Jacob's sibling in the Great Hall, where they went to find it as a matter of urgency given the Scroll's importance. After learning from Peeves about the twin's prank, and from Fred Weasley about the coffin's location, Victor and Jacob's sibling found the coffin in the kitchens, and after Victor was glitter-bombed, they found the Scroll safe and sound inside the coffin, much to their relief. Jacob's sibling and Corey then went to tell Jacob by the Great Lake that the Scroll was safe and secure.[2]

After Peregrine revealed his identity to Jacob's sibling, he told them that he was already able to acquire the contents of the whole Dark Scroll with the help of Merula Snyde being a double agent.[3]
