- "He's been at Hogwarts longer than I have and seems to know its every nook, cranny, and secret."
- — Professor Matilda Weasley[src]
Deek was a male house-elf that worked at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the late 19th century.
Biography[]
Deek originally served a first master, where he befriended a fellow house-elf called Tobbs. During that time, he first saw a nab-sack. When this master died, he was sent to serve at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, though maintained long-distance contact with Tobbs.[2]
Deek befriended Matilda Weasley during her second year at Hogwarts and together they discovered the Room of Requirement.[3] By the 1890–1891 school year, Matilda had become Deputy Headmistress and Deek had been serving at Hogwarts for a very long time, had held many jobs and responsibilities, and seemed to have discovered the castle's every nook and cranny. At Matilda's request, he helped the new fifth-year explore the Room of Requirement.[1][4][5]
After developing a certain level of bond, Deek and the fifth-year student discussed the Poacher Packs that were everywhere in the region. They came up with a plan to capture beasts before the poachers could, using a nab-sack. Deek guided the student in capturing Jobberknolls, Mooncalves, and Puffskeins, then returned to the Room of Requirement.[6]
One question that arose was where the captured creatures would be kept — it would be a mess to have them all in the Room. With the need for a dedicated space, the Room created a vivarium where the beasts could be properly cared for.[6]
Later in the school year, Deek heard from his old friend Tobbs, who had been ordered by his master to explore a cave for potion ingredients. The cave was full of spiders and thornbacks, deeply concerning the elf. Knowing the student had gained a reputation for adventuring across the region, Deek asked them to venture into the cave to find Tobbs. The student did — but all they found was Tobbs' lifeless body.[2]
The news of his dear old friend's death shocked and devastated Deek. Overcome with grief, he asked for time alone to process his emotions. Despite the loss, Deek continued living in the Room of Requirement, taking care of the space and remaining in contact with the student.[2]
Personality and traits[]
Deek was soft-spoken with a polite demeanour and, like many house-elves, referred to himself in the third person.
