- "A towering, hooded figure was gliding smoothly toward him, hovering over the ground, no feet or face visible beneath its robes, sucking on the night as it came."
- — The Dementor approaching Harry Potter in Little Whinging[src]
On 2 August 1995, two Dementors were sent to Little Whinging from Azkaban by Dolores Umbridge, without the knowledge of Cornelius Fudge, to attack Harry Potter in an attempt to silence him.[2] This ended up in Harry performing the Patronus Charm in front of his Muggle cousin Dudley Dursley and a Squib woman Arabella Figg,[3] and thus was brought into a disciplinary hearing.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the Dementors appear differently from their depiction in the book. In the book, they wear hoods, but they are unhooded in the film.[5]
