- — Overview of the department[src]
The Department of International Magical Co-operation was a division of the British Ministry of Magic which, as its name suggests, tried to get wizards from different countries to work together.
The Department functioned similarly to the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office in the Muggle world.
Location[]
The Department of International Magical Co-operation was located on the fifth level of the British Ministry of Magic Headquarters, and housed many offices and divisions.
Functions[]
The duties of the Department of International Magical Co-operation were to work with magical governments of other countries, set standards for trade, create regulations for things like cauldron thickness, and interpret international magical law.
The Department also worked with Department of Magical Games and Sports on Triwizard Tournaments, and was present at the International Confederation of Wizards, British Seats.[2]
History[]
This Department was established sometime between 1798 and 1811, by Minister Artemisia Lufkin.[1]
Former department head Barty Crouch Snr was murdered by his son Barty Crouch Jnr in 1995. When Crouch was transferred to the Head of this department from Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, Sirius Black considered this to be a demotion by Cornelius Fudge.[3]
Percy Weasley began his political career in this department as an assistant to Barty Crouch Snr from 1994 to 1995, prior to his promotion to Junior Assistant to the Minister for Magic.[4]
According to Percy, Bertha Jorkins used to work at the department at some point while Crouch Snr was the Department Head.[5]
Gareth Greengrass (under alias 'Edward Scot') was the Lead Liaison Minister of the department during the 2010s.[6]
