A dinosaur is the common name for any of a number of species belonging to the clade Dinosauria.[1]
History[]
During the 1990–1991 school year, when Jacob's sibling and Barnaby Lee were helping a clerk come up with a Muggle-worthy excuse for a dragon attack in the Muggle world, they thought about explaining the dragon to be a dinosaur, but later dismissed the idea as dinosaurs were extinct.[2]
During the 1994–1995 school year, after hearing Madame Olympe Maxime claim that she had "big bones" rather than admit to being half-giant, Harry Potter remarked that the only thing that had bigger bones would be a dinosaur.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
- The real-life dinosaur Dracorex hogwartsia (possibly the same animal as Pachycephalosaurus) was named after Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.[4]
