Dogwood (genus Cornus) is a type of wood of genus Cornus, a group of about 30-60 species of woody plants in the family Cornaceae. Most dogwoods are deciduous trees or shrubs, but a few species are nearly herbaceous perennial subshrubs, and a few of the woody species are evergreen.[2]

Wandlore[]

Dogwood wands were quirky and mischievous; they had playful natures and insisted upon partners who could provide them with scope for excitement and fun.[1]

It would be quite wrong, however, to deduce from this that dogwood wands were not capable of serious magic when called upon to do so; they had been known to perform outstanding spells under difficult conditions, and when paired with a suitably clever and ingenious witch or wizard, could produce dazzling enchantments. An interesting foible of many dogwood wands was that they refused to perform non-verbal spells and they were often rather noisy.[1]

Dogwood was one of Garrick Ollivander's personal favourites, as he always found that matching a dogwood wand with its ideal owner was entertaining (due to the wood's playful nature).[1]
