Dorran was a male centaur that lived in the Forbidden Forest in the late 19th century.[1]

Biography[]

Dorran: "And you say they made it after you placed the moonstone?"
Poppy Sweeting: "Do you know why or what it means? Does it have to do with the Snidgets?"
Dorran: "The breath of one's knowledge can be as wide as the sea, and yet only run so deep."
— Dorran and Poppy speaking about the poachers[src]

Long ago, he foresaw a series of events; the arrival of a stranger, the threat of an enemy, and the return of an old friend, but he did not understand what he saw, until Poppy Sweeting and the new fifth-year student went into the forest to seek help from the centaurs to stop Victor Rookwood's Poacher Pack from finding the Golden Snidgets. The centaur leader Elek wanted to execute them for trespassing. However, Dorran stepped in and reminded him that killing children is not their way. Elek relented, but promised all three of them would die if he ever saw the students again.[1]

Poppy told him their clue about how to find the Snidgets, that "the key to finding them lies in the moonlight" and that it was only a matter of time before the poachers figured out what that meant. Dorran mentioned a cave to the south with a Moonstone inside. He told the students to retrieve the stone and place it on the henge in the forest. Dorran left to speak with the herd and told the students to find them after they had completed the task. Poppy and the other student met up with him again later. He was relieved to see that they were alright after sending them down an unknown, possibly deadly path.[1]

Dorran believed that symbol created by the Mooncalves dance showed where the Snidgets could be found, and Dorran had only seen that symbol one other place, on a rock face on the cliffs of the forest.[1]
