The eggs of a Doxy were black in colour,[1] and were used as an ingredient in Potion-making, such as in the Girding Potion.[3][4]
Description

A black bottle of Doxy eggs
Being that the Doxy is a fairy-like beast, Bowtruckles apparently were drawn to their eggs as readily as fairy eggs.[5] They caused illness when eaten by humans, as they were poisonous.[2]
History
After the first task of the All-Wizard Tournament, the participating students were given golden coins as a clue for the second task. These coins were in fact transfigured Doxy eggs.[6]
Cormac McLaggen once ate a pound of doxy eggs on a bet, which caused him to miss the tryouts for the Gryffindor Quidditch team during his sixth year.[2]
