The the eggs of a Doxy are black in colour, and are used as an ingredient in Potion-making, such as in the Girding Potion.

Description

Being that the Doxy is a fairy-like beast, Bowtruckles apparently are drawn to their eggs as readily as fairy eggs.[1] They cause illness when eaten by humans, as they are poisonous.

History

After the first task of the All-Wizard Tournament, the participating students were given golden coins as a clue for the second task. These coins were in fact transfigured Doxy eggs.[2]

Cormac McLaggen once ate a pound of doxy eggs on a bet, which caused him to miss the tryouts for the Gryffindor Quidditch team during his sixth year.[3]
