- "Careful how you store these or you might have an infestation on your hands!"
- — Description[src]
The eggs of a doxy were black in colour,[1][2] and were used as an ingredient in potion-making, such as in the Girding Potion.[4][5]
Description[]
Being that the Doxy was a fairy-like beast, Bowtruckles apparently were drawn to their eggs as readily as fairy eggs.[6] They caused illness when eaten by humans, as they were poisonous.[3]
History[]
After the first task of the All-Wizard Tournament, the participating students were given golden coins as a clue for the second task. These coins were in fact transfigured Doxy eggs.[7]
In the 1990–1991 school year during an infestation of doxies in the castle, the Doxy Queen covered the Hogwarts kitchens in her eggs.[8]
In August 1995, whilst cleaning up 12 Grimmauld Place, Molly Weasley had her children along with Harry Potter and Hermione Granger remove an infestation of Doxies from the curtains in the house with Doxycide, with their black eggs placed in a bowl after the Doxies were stunned and placed into a bucket.[1]
Cormac McLaggen once ate a pound of doxy eggs on a bet, which caused him to miss the tryouts for the Gryffindor Quidditch team during his sixth year.[3]
