The Dragot was the wizarding currency used in the United States.[1] The Dragot was manufactured as octagonal and round coins in 1, ½ and ¼ denominations.[2] A possible subunit of the Dragot was the Sprink.[3]
History[]
In circulation from at least the 18th century, it lent its name to the position of Keeper of Treasure and Dragots.[1] Aristotle Twelvetrees served this position at the time.
Etymology[]
The term "dragot" is possibly formed by the concatenation of the terms "drachma / dragma" (a form of the Greek word for coin "drachma") and "ingot" (a block of oblong metal). It may also simply be based on the English word "dragon", as suggested by the dragon-like creatures on the reverse side.
