This duel between Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald took place in 1932, at The Eyrie.[1]
History[]
Background information[]
Creation of the blood pact[]
Sometime in mid-1899, Gellert Grindelwald and Albus Dumbledore went to a barn one day. They faced each other and laid their hands out, facing each other and with their wands they scored their palms, breathing heavily with pain they interlaced their hands together. They lifted their hands into the air and two drops of blood, mingle and merged together to create a blood pact, a pendant then formed around the drop of blood, and created a beautiful vial that contained their blood pact which secured their bond and promise to never fight each other.[2]
The duel[]
- "Instantly, their wands rise, FLASHING again and again - fire and parry, fire and parry - in a dizzying - and cathartic - display of power. As they continue to battle, they draw closer and closer, neither able to get the best of the other, neither willing to concede, until finally, nearly face-to-face, their arms cross and they...Stop. Chests heaving. Eyes locked on each other. Dumbledore reaches out, delicately puts his hand on Grindelwald's heart. Grindelwald does the same, hand on Dumbledore's."
- — The duel[src]
In 1932, Grindelwald tried to kill Credence Barebone after the walk of the Qilin for failing him. Albus and Aberforth Dumbledore intervened, and once Albus and Gellert's spells connected, the blood pact between Grindelwald and Dumbledore slowly started to break, starting from its chains. Albus and Gellert noticed and were shocked, the whole chain started to detach and disappeared, leading to the pact breaking. Albus and Grindelwald immediately started duelling.
Albus and Grindelwald immediately started duelling. They shoot red spells at each other, and then Grindelwald then shot two green spells. Dumbledore then shot a blue spell, which Grindelwald sidestepped to avoid. Then, they both cast red spells, with Grindelwald gradually pushing his own red jet at Dumbledore's own, before Dumbledore slowly pushed his own jet back to Grindelwald's. Grindelwald slashed the connection, and sent a blue-white spell at Dumbledore, who blocked it with a Shield Charm. Dumbledore then casts a blue-white spell at Grindelwald, who also blocked it with a Shield Charm. Then, they both closed the distance with each other, casting spells at each other and sidestepping them. Grindelwald casts a green spell once more, but Dumbledore pushes his hand away. They then point to each other with a red spell, and their wand-free hands on the other's heart.
During the duel, the pact was slowly cracking more and more until they reached a stalemate and separated. When separated, Gellert yelled at Albus and asked who would love him now as the blood pact was broken, he was all alone and had no romantic relationship any more. Still cracking, the pact fell slowly until it hit the ground and shattered into two pieces.[1]
