- "Everyone feels pain. And why? Because of your arrogance. Your obsession with secrets. They won't suffer any longer. Not my father, not my students. No one."
- — Isidora Morganach to the Keepers[src]
This duel occurred in the Tudor period as a consequence of Isidora Morganach, the professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, extracting the pain of countless students at the school. The Keepers, a coalition of Isidora's mentors, considered this to be a grave misuse of the powers of ancient magic, and pleaded her to stop. As Isidora refused, a duel broke out between the five of them, resulting in Isidora's death.[2]
Events[]
- Percival Rackham: "Isidora, set down your wand."
- Isidora Morganach: "Professor. You taught me to hone my power, not throw it away."
- Percival Rackham: "I did not teach you this. Expelliarmus!"
- — The beginning of the duel in Keepers' Caverns[src]
The Keepers confronted Isidora Morganach in the Keepers' Caverns, a vast cave network beneath Hogwarts Castle, which she had long been using to extract pain from the students of the school. Though well-intentioned, the Keepers considered this to be an abuse of the ancient magic that they had sworn to protect. Isidora claimed that she would allow no-one to feel pain again: "not my father, not my students." Percival Rackham asked Isidora to set down her wand, only to be told that he had encouraged her to hone her powers, not to throw them away. In response, Percival cast the Disarming Charm.[2]
Isidora deflected Percival's Disarming Charm before it could reach her, and nonverbally hurled an explosive spell at the Keepers, sending them backwards, and rendering Niamh Fitzgerald unconscious. The other Keepers regained their composure, and Percival sent an unknown spell at Isidora, only for her to lock spells with Percival and start sending it back to him.[2]
The death of Isidora Morganach
Charles Rookwood joined the fight, locking spells with Isidora on Percival's side, and for a brief moment, starting to overpower her. An incredibly powerful witch, however, she started to regain the upper hand. The duel was cut short when San Bakar, after tending to Niamh, shot the Killing Curse at Isidora, ending her life. Percival and Charles looked relieved at San's intervention, though still quite shocked at the usage of the Unforgivable Curse. While Charles and San went to check on Niamh's health, Percival went over to Isidora's corpse and observed her wand.[2]
