The Duelling Dungeon was a room in the Hogwarts' dungeons that was used by an exclusive duelling club in the past.[1]
History[]
Many years before the 2010s, the Duelling Dungeon was used by an exclusive Hogwarts duelling club, whose name was forgotten in time.[1]
By the 2011–2012 school year, the members of team Hogwarts that were participating in the Intercontinental Wizard's Cup were looking for somewhere to practice their duelling skills that was more private than the Duelling Club. This was because Ivy Warrington, whose sister Winifred had been mentioning she was scared of her, didn't want her sister to see her "curse her friends into oblivion" and increase her fear of her. Daniel Page asked Gossamer if he knew of such a place, so he took the friends to the Duelling Dungeon.[1]
At the room, Gossamer told them what the dungeon had been used for and that it even still had many special training tools. Daniel recognised the Duelling Dummies, which had been enchanted to deflect back any spells used on them by the caster. The friends began their training and, after they finished, Violet Williams disguised as Cassandra Vole confronted them about why they didn't invite her as "she" was also a member of their team. Violet began provoking Ivy about her sister being afraid of her and that she could feel Ivy's emotions. Ivy demanded "Cassandra" take her to see her sister and ask her directly.[1]
After the confrontation in the Slytherin common room, Ivy and Winifred reconciled, but Violet was discovered by the real Cassandra Vole, who knocked her out with a spell. They took Violet back to the Duelling Dungeon, where they confronted her about being a Metamorphmagus and spying on them. Violet confessed that Viggo Victor forced her to do it so he could learn the secrets and weaknesses of their rival teams. She mentioned that when Viggo learned about the situation between the Warrington sisters, he told Violet to push them together to try to break them. Violet apologised for what she did, but Ivy and Winifred forgave her because they recovered their friendship with her help.[1]
The Duelling Dungeon was selected to hold the second challenge of the Intercontinental Wizard's Cup featuring a duelling competition with two types of duels: teams and individuals. Before the matches began, Violet gave the other teams a parchment with the strengths and weaknesses of the Ilvermorny team to compensate for her espionage. The duels began with matches between Yumi Ito and a Muggle-born Hogwarts student, followed by a team match between the Ilvermorny and Hogwarts teams, during which a stray spell from Viggo Victor knocked out Kevin Farrell, who was in the room as a spectator, causing Robyn Thistlethwaite's anger, telling Cassandra to blast Viggo into tomorrow. An individual match between Cassandra and Kenji Kobayashi was next, with Kenji taking a defensive approach that, eventually, cost him the duel.[1]
With Mahoutokoro defeated, the two final duels took place. The first match was Ivy versus Violet, but, in the spirit of goodwill and sportsmanship, Violet forfeited, and Ivy decided to do the same. The final duel was between the Muggle-born student and Zack Johnson, ending with the student's victory. After the duel, Daniel mentioned that they were going to celebrate Hogwarts's victory. Winifred was really excited about it. Ivy suggested inviting Violet and, to her friend's surprise, Cassandra too.[1]
