Edith Nesbit (15 August 1858–4 May 1924), also known by her pen name E. Nesbit, was an English Muggle author and poet, who wrote E. Nesbit's Fairy Tales and Tails.[2]

The name "Edith" comes from the Old English name Eadgyð, derived from the elements ead "rich, blessed" and gyð "war".
