Emancipare may come from the Latin ēmancipō, meaning "I set free" or the English word 'Emancipate' meaning the same thing.
Behind the scenes
- Prior to this spell's canonical appearance in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, this spell was first found in the script for the film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, though the spell was never mentioned in the film itself. Hermione is shown to unsuccessfully use this spell amongst a few others (Annihilare, Dunamis and Liberare) in her attempt to free Sirius Black from his cell atop the Dark Tower, before successfully employing Bombarda.
