An Expelliarmus Gargoyle in the Avifors Challenge
Expelliarmus Gargoyles were sentient, malevolent gargoyles that had been magically animated to attack individuals. They appeared at the end of many Hogwarts Spell challenges, except the Incendio challenge where three had to be fought. It would offensively fire bolts of yellow magical energy in order to harm an individual. Its only weakness was the Disarming Charm, in which its spells could be deflected with; furthermore, the Gargoyle could deflect spells simply by using its wings as shields. Several deflected spells were needed to strike and harm the Gargoyle, which are needed to destroy it and reduce it into rubble.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- These Gargoyles only appear as recurring bosses in the XBOX, PlayStation 2 and Game Cube versions of the video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Thus, these Gargoyles cannot be considered canonical, as they only appear in non-canonical spell challenges; furthermore, the Disarming Charm does not deflect spells, rendering their usage fully void.
