Fake wands are strips of wood with no magical properties. Anticipating a riot, the Ministry of Magic confiscated wands of the Holyhead Harpies and Puddlemere United fans at the gates prior to the match. However most of the fans only turned in fake wands.[1]

Sometime after Lord Voldemort's return to the open, two Death Eaters pleaded guilty to dealing in fake wands.[2]

Despite its general lack of success, the very attempt of the confiscation of wands by the Ministry was a flagrant violation of civil rights, as the right to carry a wand at all times was established by the International Confederation of Wizards in 1692.[3]
