Dumbledore and the reborn Fawkes.[HP2]
Fawkes is a phoenix owned by Albus Dumbledore. Being a phoenix, Fawkes periodically dies, bursting into flames, on a Burning Day, and is then reborn from the ashes.
Fawkes once saved the life of Harry Potter in 1993[HP2], when shedding healing tears on wounds inflicted by Slytherin's basilisk. Fawkes also saved his master, Professor Dumbledore, in 1996[HP5], when he blocked a Killing Curse intended for Dumbledore, thus giving the headmaster time to defend himself. He was promptly reborn afterwards. In addition, Fawkes played an instrumental role in Dumbledore's response to the news that Arthur Weasley had been attacked by a serpent while on duty for the Order of the Phoenix earlier that same year.
Fawkes was last seen towards the end of school year 1996-1997[HP6], when Dumbledore died. It is believed that he was the source of the flame which engulfed Dumbledore's body at his funeral.
He has several remarkable powers, such as his healing tears, and his ability to carry heavy weight with remarkable grace and strength. In addition, Fawkes seems to be able to teleport at will, even through the anti-Apparation enchantments surrounding the Hogwarts School.
Fawkes' name is supposedly derived from the name "Guy Fawkes".
