The Federal Bureau of Covert Vigilance and No-Maj Obliviation (F.B.C.V.N.O.) was a wizarding government agency that seemingly operates under the jurisdiction of the Magical Congress of the United States of America.[1] It is tasked with detecting and dealing with magical contraventions in the U.S through the use of real-time hex indication maps, in addition to using spells of concealment, protection, and memory charms in order to hide the magical community from the non-magical population.
History
In December 1926, the Federal Bureau of Covert Vigilance and No-Maj Obliviation issued record penalties, something which made headlines on The New York Ghost.[1]
Appearances
- Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (film) (Mentioned on newspaper)
Behind the scenes
- In real life, government bodies with bureau in the name are often a subdivision of a larger agency, and as such, it is possible that despite whatever segregation there is between the magical and non-magical communities of Noth America, that the F.B.C.V.N.O. is actually one of several branches of a parent agency, such as the Agency for the Protection of Wizarding Secrecy.
- Based on the information we have so far, we can assume that the F.B.C.V.N.O. carries out their duties much in the same way the Obliviator Headquarters and the Invisibility Task Force does for the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes in Great Britain.
