9 Sherringford Square[1] was the street address of a yellow brick Victorian townhouse located in London (in the SE11 postal district),[1] where the Magizoologist Newt Scamander lived.[2]
The basement had an Undetectable Extension Charm placed upon it to house at least a dozen of Newt's magical beasts.[3]
History[]
The house was built at sometime prior to 1927. Newton Scamander lived in this house.[4] Sometime prior to the release of his book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, during the night, he was attacked by a Lethifold during his sleep, and was almost killed.[5]
In September 1927, after returning to his house after talking to Albus Dumbledore about Credence Barebone and other things, he noticed that the light near his bed was flickering off and on, which was actually a baby Niffler. Newt went down to the basement and told Bunty that the nifflers were loose again, and she quickly got gloves and rescued them and put them back into their cage. They took care of the Mooncalves, and the Leucrotta.[4]
They went over to the kelpie enclosure and Newt jumped over in order to ride the beast up to give it medicine and feed it.[4]
Soon after, American witch Queenie Goldstein and her fiancé, No-Maj Jacob Kowalski paid a visit here to tell Newt of their engagement. They ate dinner at the dinner table. While eating, Queenie told Newt that Tina Goldstein had started to date another wizard after being jealous over the fact she thought Newt was marrying Leta, but was corrected by him that his brother was getting married to her and not him.
Soon after, there was a complication when Newt learned that Jacob had been put under a love charm by Queenie, and Jacob and Queenie stormed outside and argued. Newt noticed a ripped up postcard and used a repair charm to put it back together, seeing that Tina was in Paris. He ran down to the basement and got ready to head to Paris to find her.[4]
Soon after, Jacob returned and went down to the basement while Newt was still down there. They talked about how Tina was in Paris and Queenie would be there, so they got ready and left.[4]
Interior[]
Upstairs[]
The house is very small, with old-style furnishings and décor.
One section was the living room, which had his bed, couch, and fireplace. On the other side, was the kitchen which had a table, and a sink for dish-washing.
There was a door which lead to the basement which housed a basement magically-expanded through use of the Undetectable Extension Charm. This allowed Newt to use his house as a animal hospital for rescued and endangered beasts.
Basement[]
The basement held a criss-cross of stairs that allowed Newt to move between his beasts.[6] The basement enclosure's consisted of:
- Kelpie habitat - It was magically-expanded. The habitat was square shaped, intricately designed, with pillars. The ground was gravel and had seaweed in it. Outside of the water, looked like the Highlands near the Hogwarts Castle.[7]
- Niffler cage - For the baby Nifflers, with gold and jewellery.[8]
- Care section - Held baby Mooncalves and a Leucrotta. It was made up of two stone walls, with a gate, walling of the Mooncalves from the Leucrotta.[9]
- Newt's desk- Held his journal, notes, a book launch invitation.[10]
- Snow biome - Had mountains and trees.[11]
- Jungle biome - Possibly used if Newt captured any beast that lived in the jungle.[12]
- Forest and plains - This habitat was filled with flowers and trees, and a six-legged panda pig[13]
- Mooncalf Enclosure - For the Mooncalves with a full moon and mountains, it was most likely always night-time.[14]
- Water-fall - This was used for unknown reasons.[15]
- Lava biome - This was used for unknown reasons.[16]
- Desert biome - This was used for unknown reasons.[17]
