"Last night we suffered an unimaginable loss at the hands of unimaginable evil. Rowan Khanna, a devoted student and friend, sacrificed [their] life to save another's. There is no more noble deed... Today we gather as one Hogwarts community to grieve, remember, and honour Rowan and [their] final heroic act... And never forget that Rowan Khanna died a hero. Some of you may know that it was Rowan's ambition to teach at Hogwarts one day. By constantly pursuing new knowledge and instilling a love of learning in ourselves and others, we can honour Rowan's dream... But remember that if we let Rowan's noble goal be a guiding light in these dark times, then just like this light, the memory of Rowan Khanna - a clever, brave, driven, and loyal companion - will shine on."
Professor Albus Dumbledore gives a brief eulogy and speech about the life and the memory of Rowan Khanna[src]

The memorial ceremony for Rowan Khanna was held during the 1989–1990 school year of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.[1]

The memorial feast was held following the murder of seventeen-year-old student Rowan Khanna, at the hands of the Dark witch Patricia Rakepick. It was held so that students and staff could pay their respects to Rowan and honour them for their last heroic act, when they sacrificed their life to save that of their friend.[1]

History[]

Background information[]

The duel with Rakepick[]

Sometime during the 1989–1990 school year, Jacob's sibling, Merula Snyde, and Ben Copper went into the Forest Grove to intercept a possible meeting between Jacob and R, unknowingly being followed from a close distance behind them by their friend, Rowan Khanna. During the search, a swarm of dementors showed up, and circled the group. However, the Dark witch Patricia Rakepick apparated into the vicinity and cast a powerful Patronus Charm, which warded off all of the dementors. She then engaged in a duel with the students, all of which was watched by Rowan.[2]

Eventually, Jacob's sibling and Merula Snyde were defeated, with only Ben still fighting. He ferociously cast spells at Rakepick, however most were blocked by the latter. Eventually, ben cast Flipendo Maxima at Rakepick, stating that it would teach her a lesson. She then retaliated by stating that she would teach him a lesson for him to take to his grave, and cast a Killing Curse at Ben, intending to kill him. However, Rowan, who had been watching the whole duel, rushed forward to push Ben out of the way, but was unable to get themselves out of range in time as well; thus sacrificing their life and saving that of their friends.[2]

Remembering Rowan[]

Mourning[]

Rowan's death struck the entirety of Hogwarts as an extremely painful event and their death was mourned by all of their friends, who found it difficult to come to terms with their tragic loss. In particular to suffer were Jacob's sibling, Ben Copper, and Merula Snyde, all of whom had watched them die. Shortly after the death, all of the students were instructed to gather in the Great Hall. In the great hall, Penny Haywood approached Jacob's Sibling, telling him that she had information about why Rowan was in the forest the night before. Before she could finish however, Professor Dumbledore walked in to the room and walked up to his lectern to speak to the crowd assembled.[1]

Dumbledore's eulogy[]

Professor Dumbledore then gave a brief eulogy of Rowan's life, stating that there is no more noble deed than what Rowan did in the last moment of their life. He also stated that he would not "waste words" on Rowan's killer, and that she would be brought to justice. He then stated that there are many forms of grief, and that it would take time for many to recover from their sadness. He said that it was Rowan's life ambition to become a Hogwarts Professor, and that by constantly pursuing new knowledge and instilling a love of learning in ones self and others, it would honour Rowan's dream. He then announced that lessons had been cancelled, to give students time to grieve. Lastly, he lead the students and staff in raising their wands as a tribute to Rowan.[1]

Aftermath[]

Circle of Khanna

The Circle of Khanna being formed

Rowan's murder prompted a vengeful Jacob's sibling, Merula and Ben to form their own secret organisation to combat the malevolent "R" and get revenge on Rakepick for what she had done.[2] The organisation was named Circle of Khanna in memory of Rowan.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

  • The house ghost which attends the ceremony in the game will be the same one as Rowan's chosen house. However, it would seem more canonically fitting that all four house ghosts would attend to pay their respects to a fallen student.
