Someone was capable of making Aurors disappear without a trace... The story took hold across the entire wizarding world. There was an opening and she was the best candidate. But she was never a rule follower. This isn't an uncommon point of view amongst Aurors. Many prefer doing things their own way, and her work was outstanding... But when she went missing there wasn't much for me follow. The handle has been worn with age, and "If lost, return to Penelope Padgett" has been magically carved into the wood, near the base of the broom. She told me that her Comet was the last thing she received from her mother before she was sent to Azkaban. It's the only thing she has to remember her by. Penelope favoured her broom to travel with during field work instead of Apparating. She said it was because of her motion sickness...
