A fingernail is the flattish horned part of the upper surface of the tip of a human finger.
History[]
In the 1988–1989 school year, when Jacob's sibling and their friend were confronted by a Dark witch in Knockturn Alley, she told them that they offer certain parts of their body for safe passage through the alley, such as fingernails, blood or eyes. She said these things could be appreciated by the right connoisseur.[2]
On 10 August 1992, an aged witch in Knockturn Alley was selling a tray of what looked horribly like whole human fingernails. Harry Potter who was in Knockturn Alley by mistake, had the witch present her tray of fingernails in front of him when she asked him if he was lost. When Rubeus Hagrid arrived to rescue Harry from Knockturn Alley, the witch dropped her tray of fingernails, cursing in response.[1]
