- "I'm half and half. Me dad's a Muggle. Mam didn't tell him she was a witch 'til after they were married. Bit of a nasty shock for him."
- — Seamus Finnigan regarding his family[src]
Finnigan was the surname of an Irish Muggle family, though they had some magical blood, since one family member married a witch; their son Seamus was also a wizard.[1]
Known family members[]
- Mr Finnigan: a Muggle who was shocked to learn that his wife was a witch shortly after their marriage; Seamus' father.[1]
- Mrs Finnigan: a witch and Seamus' mother.[1]
- Florence Finnigan: A Gryffindor student who caused chaos in Hogwarts during the late 1980s.[2]
- Seamus Finnigan: a Gryffindor student in Harry Potter's year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry[1] and member of Dumbledore's Army.[3][4]
Relations[]
- Fergus: Seamus' cousin.
Etymology[]
Finnigan is a fairly common Irish surname. Finnegan's Wake is a popular comedic Irish ballad, as well as the basis for the title of James Joyce's Finnegans Wake.
Behind the scenes[]
- Florence's relationship with Seamus is unknown. It is likely that the surname 'Finnigan' was chosen by the developers for a reason, yet with Seamus' father being a Muggle, their relationship (if any) cannot be assumed. It is said that Seamus' father was shocked when he found out his wife was a witch,[1] but this could be for any number of reasons. In sum, she could be Muggle-born, come from a different branch of the family, or be completely unrelated altogether.
