Fire-omens (the technique being known as pyromancy) were a concept in Divination.[1]

History[]

At the start of 1993–1994 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Professor Sybill Trelawney promised her third-year Divination students that they would begin to study crystal-gazing in the summer term, as long as they were done learning about fire-omens by that time.[1]

In 1996 at Hogwarts, Firenze taught his fifth-year Divination class to burn various herbs and spices such as sage and mallowsweet, and to try and see symbols in the smoke.[2] It is unknown if this would be considered a form of reading fire-omens.
