Fireflies are small winged insects, that are able to light up a dark area.

They could be found in the Forbidden Forest[2] and at the highest point of the Dungeons of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Firefly Room.[3]
They were used in the German wizarding prison known as the Erkstag to light lamps.[1]
