Flagrate creates a burning trail in the air that fades with time. It can be directed in any shape or direction the caster chooses using their wand.
- In 1993, Tom Riddle's memory used the spell non-verbally when spelling his name to Harry Potter in the Chamber of Secrets. He could also rearrange the letters by waving his wand.
- Hermione Granger used this spell to mark doors with an "X" in the Entrance Room of the Department of Mysteries in 1996.
The word Flagrate comes from the Latin words "flagro", meaning "glowing/blaze".
