Fluffy is a giant three-headed dog who was once cared for by Rubeus Hagrid. Fluffy's great weakness is the inability to resist falling asleep to the sound of music.

Hagrid originally purchased Fluffy from "a Greek chappie" at a pub. Hagrid enlisted Fluffy's aid in guarding the Philosopher's Stone during the 1991-1992 Hogwarts school term. Professor Quirrell used music to put Fluffy to sleep while searching for the Stone, but he woke up when it stopped, and attacked Harry, Ron, and Hermione; they escaped by slipping through the trap door Fluffy was guarding. After his duties were done, and the Stone was destroyed, Hagrid set Fluffy free in the Forbidden Forest. Presumably, he is still there.

Fluffy.

Three-headed dogs are very rare creatures. It is unknown if, like the Runespoor, each head serves a different purpose.

Behind the scenes

  • Three-headed dogs are prominent in Greek and Roman mythology and are also known as hellhounds, the chief of all being Cerberus. It is odd that the movie adaption would rather have had Hagrid purchase Fluffy from an Irish as opposed to Greek man, as Cereberus was a major role in Greek mythology.
