A football is an inflated ball that is often spherical and white with a lot of black dots[1] and is used in the game of the same name. The players of each football team have to score goals with the ball, using any part of the body except for the hands. The only exception to this rule is the goalkeepers, who are permitted to use their hands, as those players have to protect the goal. If the ball touches a player's hands, the player will be penalised.
History[]
During the 1985–1986 school year, a football was in the Muggle Studies Classroom.[2]
In 1991, Harry Potter did not believe that he could be a wizard at first when Rubeus Hagrid told him he was one, because Dudley Dursley "had always been able to kick him around like a football."[3]
Dean Thomas was known for his love of football, with him challenging his friend Harry Potter to football games during the 1992–1993 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.[1]
A punctured football was amongst the discarded Portkeys that Harry Potter observed when he first arrived at the campgrounds for the 1994 Quidditch World Cup.[4]
On 21 January 1995, Harry Potter found that one of the enchanted Rainbow Bath Taps in the Prefects' Bathroom poured bubble bath mixed with water that produced pink and blue bubbles the size of footballs.[5]
