The forest troll (Troglodytarum sylvaticum)[4] was a breed of troll.
Description[]
It had pale-green skin, and some specimens had thin straggly hair that is either green or brown. This breed of troll was native to forests or woodlands.[1]
History[]
Near the end of the 1987–1988 school year, a forest troll in the Forbidden Forest began foraging for bubotubers to eat near a Forest Lake, after its usual source in a nearby clearing was trampled by sleepwalking students affected by the curse of the Forest Vault. This caused problems for the Forbidden Forest Centaur colony, who used the lake as their main source of water. Jacob's sibling, Charlie Weasley, and Liz Tuttle used Dragon dung fertiliser and the Herbivicus Charm to quickly establish a new crop of bubotubers in the clearing to settle the situation peacefully.[5]
By at least 1993, other forest trolls could be found around the Forbidden Forest, yelling and grunting at any intruder that crossed their paths.[2]
During the 2010–2011 school year, a forest troll attacked the Hippogriff Teartalon, potentially due to a lack of easier food sources, causing her severe injuries. After Daniel Page and a Muggle-born student located some Dittany at the request of Rubeus Hagrid to help brew Essence of Dittany to treat Teartalon's injuries, the same forest troll appeared and attempted to attack the Hippogriff again. Daniel and the student were able to repel the troll for long enough that it eventually decided to retreat before giving Hagrid the Dittany to help treat Teartalon's wounds.[6]
