The Forgotten Grounds was a closed-off area by the Quidditch pitch on the Hogwarts ground. It could only be accessed via an old, rusty gate that was kept locked; as a result, this area became abandoned and, gradually, virtually forgotten.[1]
Description[]
The Forbidden Grounds was enclosed by stone walls, although the far end had very thick trees that one could not cross. There were three areas there: a Puffapod patch, an area with an infestation of Horklumps, and an area with a fully grown Venomous Tentacula. It was close to Hagrid's Hut and the Gargoyle Gate leading to Hogwarts Puffskein patch.[1]
History[]
In 1991, Fred and George Weasley stole a sloth brain from Severus Snape's private stores, and hid on the Forbidden Grounds, where no one could find it, to the chagrin of the Potions Master. Harry Potter found a map scribbled by Fred and George indicating its location, and retrieved it to Snape.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- This area is exclusive to the PlayStation video game adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. In its sequel, this area of the grounds is replaced by a secret passageway that leads to a cliff looking out to the Black Lake, instead.
- When Harry enters the Forgotten Grounds for the first time, he finds Ronald Weasley alongside a small Puffskein in a wide area containing several dangerous bushes, where he tells him that he used to own one, but Fred and George set it up for Bludger practice.
- When Harry is heading for the Gargoyle Gate, Neville Longbottom can be seen running away from the area, warning him about a "huge monster".
- Several notes based on the Puffskein, Puffapods, Horklumps, and Venomous Tentacula written by Rubeus Hagrid can be found in certain areas of the grounds.
