Seth disagrees with the idea but has, as the good person he is, agreed to make me a template for me to demonstrate the idea I had.

Rather than having lots of separate pages (such as Cygnus Black I, Dorea Black, Orion Black etc) for characters that are "minor" and "off page", I was thinking that maybe we should have one page for them all. In case that is not well explained, thanks to Seth I have the templates made to physically demonstrate it below.

LIST OF MINOR OFF PAGE CHARACTERS

Wizards and Witches[]

Dorea Black[]

and so on and so forth and have one page with the different headings for "Muggles", "Witches and Wizards", "Pets", etc, etc, (depending on what we come to if we decide to do this page.) with the information all hidden under the "More Info" tags and can be dropped down and viewed as people want.

They don't have to search through lots of pages to find what they want as there will be everything on one page and they only have to scroll and open the section they want to read it or click on the required section in "contents".

It would shrink down the number of pages on the wiki (which makes editing easier as when new information comes we don't have to edit fifty pages to add that info in, just lots of sections on one page) and for those who are new to the wiki and searching for something, it is easier for them to find what they want too.

And, of course, in terms of "cleaning up" (for lack of a better word!), it works better as there are less pages to deal with and easier to keep track of.

Your thoughts? Yay? Nay?--HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 20:03, March 5, 2017 (UTC)

Disagreed. The wiki is meant to be detailed, and each chara deserves its own page if named.--Rodolphus (talk) 20:15, March 5, 2017 (UTC)--Rodolphus (talk) 20:15, March 5, 2017 (UTC)

I see the idea, but I don’t think deleting the pages we have already made and merging them into one article is worth it.
When people want to search for minor characters, they usually type in the name and it pops up clearly, either through google or through our search bar. They type in Dorea Black and she will appear!
But changing that system when it works fine, and having people search the one page under another title for just one of minor characters we have, will probably make it harder for them to find what they are looking for. And we have a lot of minor characters!
It is one thing having lots of pages for minor characters, but that is much more simple than having one page where we put every single one of them. People love to see through an infobox, who they are related to and how, for example. And that needs sources. Having the one page, will be extensive and harder to manage!
Maybe we could use the idea for extensive character pages instead, to make them shorter by putting Behind the Scenes for example, under the template? -- Kates39 (talk) 20:36, March 5, 2017 (UTC)
I heavily disagree too. Everything was mostly said, and I also agree with Seth's opinion (from here) on the topic. So, it is a big no to me. Lady Junky 20:41, March 5, 2017 (UTC)
I have suggested that Idea to Seth, Kate. Use it for the "Behind the scenes" and "relationships" sections. And, if this idea doesn't work, maybe we only use it for minor characters that have no relation to anything, like Gertie who lived in Queerditch Marsh?--HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 20:48, March 5, 2017 (UTC)
The House of Black page (redirected from a Black search) already has an "easy to see" picture gallery to connect to any black family. What your saying is basically new self made category pages? Usually that is not ideal on a wiki. Just saying. User:I am the best robot

No, what I'm saying is a page with all the "minor" characters -- like some of the older blacks that we know nothing about or Gertie from Queerditch Marsh -- go on a page like I have demonstrated above, under the required heading for each, "Hag", "Vampire", etc, etc.--HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 22:25, March 5, 2017 (UTC)

which is a "minor" character category (self made), rather than using the generic categories of normal wikia. Making pages to stuff info that isn't convenient or making pages for EDIT:MULTIPLE redirectS are both outside the scope of wikia. Each page now has a "female" and "male" category which is easy to look at and find character names. I have done so looking for game names for myself and my wife. What your suggesting would be to disambiguate the category system of the wikia, making it harder to find information (not easier).
The largest "responsibility" of a wikia is to make sure that the information is easily found. It would be far superior to concentrate efforts to tie information together through links and categories.
I understand your opinion about minor characters but it doesn't work well within a wikia system. User:I am the best robot

I think you'll find, actually, that with it all together in one place, it is a lot easier to find what you are looking for. --HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 02:29, March 6, 2017 (UTC)

wait, what? your missing the point... the point is that they ARE all together in one place. Category:Females, Category:Males, Category:Creatures, etc.
The suggestion that overriding the normal pathways of wikia, abolishing the established categories and creating a "better system" that helps users is in error. If you are so enthused about your better system, do all the pages you suggest as sandbox pages. The only way to "show everyone what I mean" is to actually show them. User:I am the best robot
A good place to start would be: User:HarryPotterRules1/muggles
I would suggest doing ALL the pages you suggest overhauling as well. It seems like your passionate so get started. User:I am the best robot
