I remember Dumbledore saying that Harry could've used the deathly hallows to beat Voldemort, but that he wanted Harry to destroy the horcruxes instead. I was wondering how could Harry defeat Voldemort with the deathly hallows without first destroying the horcruxes? 24.99.99.112 03:47, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

I think you may have misunderstood. Dumbledore was worried that Harrys desire to posses the Hallows would distract him from his hunt for the Horcruxes. I don't think he ever intended Harry to use them against Voldmeort, and I don't think that Harry could have. Obviously the Elder Wands allegiance to Harry was the main reason Voldemort was killed, but the Hallows united aren't a weapon, and as Dumbledore said they don't really make you immortal because the true master of death is he who accepts mortality like Harry, rather than he who chases immortality like Voldemort. I agree with Jayden Matthews. That is why Dumbledore didn't explain the Hallows directly to Harry, in the fear he would run off on a quest to find them. And he couldn't defeat Voldemort with the Hallows without destroying the Horcruxes first, that was why Hermione talked him out of trying to unite the Hallows. Moonys Girl 21:54, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

I also agree with Jayden Matthews. But I dont think that Dumbledore didnt explain them to Harry to stop him going off on a quest to find them, I think he just ran out of time to tell him everything so started with the more important bit first. We all know, elder wand or no that Harry would have faced Voldemort in the end anyway. GodricVXR 18:22, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Harry: "Why did you have to make it so difficult?"
Dumbledore: "I am afraid I counted on Miss Granger to slow you up, Harry. I was afraid that your hot head might dominate your good heart. I was scared that, if presented outright with the facts about those tempting objects, you might seize the Hallows as I did, at the wrong time, for the wrong reasons. If you laid hands on them, I wanted you to possess them safely."
