Rescently, some articles, apparently mostly on articles on FB contents, had image galeries added to them. Isn“t grouping images of the same topic what image categories are for, making this a bit unnecessary“?I thought images within articles were meant to support the written text with fitting images, not just adding a collection at the bottom?

What do others think? --Rodolphus (talk) 18:18, October 10, 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm not sure about them either. It makes the article look cluttered. I think they need to be placed in image categories, not on articles unless they support written text. --Kates39 (talk) 19:01, October 10, 2016 (UTC)
For Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (film), I think it makes sense to have galleries of promotional stills, movie posters, etc as it is documenting the material released in the run up to the movie's premiere. However, on in-universe articles I thought that images generally had to be integrated with the text, and also have no out-of-universe elements (wand boxes with film logo, watermarks, website names, etc). However, I can't find these requirements or recommendations in the official policies, and none of the admins appear to be enforcing them. Are there guidelines that cover this situation or is it just a matter of differing styles? --Ironyak1 (talk) 06:33, October 11, 2016 (UTC)
I agree it makes sense in special articles like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (film), but for pages on in-universe subjects, the layout guide suggests images should accompany the body of the article in places in which they are relevant (i.e., where they illustrate the text). Image categories serve the purpose of galleries as it is.
That said, I can understand why this is happening on articles about Fantastic Beasts characters -- unlike any new canon we've previously been presented, we're being treated to visuals first, then information (as opposed to "book now, images when the movie comes out"). IMO, the problem will sort itself out in one month's time, as the articles in question become larger, and the images can be properly fitted into them. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 14:28, October 14, 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I can see how the galleries are acting as holding pens until there is enough story to provide a place for them. However, there is also going to be 2h and 15m of new visual material showing up at the same time (the internet doing what it does) so I guess there will be plenty to choose from so the galleries can be cleared out (except for FB|F) Thanks for weighing in --Ironyak1 (talk) 15:37, October 14, 2016 (UTC)
