Forums: Index > The Wizengamot > How is Tom Riddle related to the Potters?

It's been a while since I've read the books and I remember making the connection between the two families (from Tom's maternal side of course) but I can't seem to remember it. Would you care to refresh my memory? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ashfaaqb (talkcontribs).

Very distantly. Their common ancestors are the Peverell brothers' parents. Tom Riddle descends, through the Gaunts, from Cadmus Peverell, the second brother (that's where Marvolo Gaunt got the ring with the Ressurection Stone fitted into it); and Harry descends, through his father, from Ignotus Peverell, the third brother (from which James Potter got the Cloak of Invisibility). Considering that the Peverells lived in the 1200s, Harry and Riddle are very, very distant cousins. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 16:02, September 2, 2015 (UTC)
