- "Magic always leaves traces. It indicates the location of a Foundable left by magic, causing this Calamity and risking the Statute of Secrecy. Foundables are what we're calling the things that are missing."
- —Harry Potter[src]
The term Foundable was used by the Ministry of Magic to refer to people, things, and even memories displaced all over the Muggle world during the Calamity. Foundables were stuck in place by a piece of chaotic magic, called a Confoundable, thus threatening to expose the wizarding world and in potential serious breach of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy.[1]
The Statute of Secrecy Task Force, created as a response to the Calamity, was tasked to investigate and contain this threat and prevent outbreaks of magic from being noticed by Muggles by retrieving all Foundables on the Registry: a listing of all the missing Foundables known to the Ministry.[1]
