- "Frank Bryce was the Riddles’ gardener. He lived alone in a rundown cottage on the grounds of the Riddle House. Frank had come back from the war with a very stiff leg and a great dislike of crowds and loud noises, and had been working for the Riddles ever since."
- — Frank's occupation of this cottage[src]
This cottage was the permanent residence of Frank Bryce. It was situated near the Riddle House and the Little Hangleton graveyard.[1]
Description[]
The cottage was a small, one-story building,[2] situated close to the Riddle House where the kitchen window has a clear view of the great, abandoned manor. Known rooms inside was a bedroom and a kitchen. A chimney was located at the top centre of the roof.[1]
History[]
When Frank started working as the gardener for the Riddle family, he was given this little cottage as his permanent residence. After being falsely accused for the murder of the Riddle family and released due to lack of evidence, he continued living there, working as the gardener for the new owners of the Riddle House, despite the locals' distrust for him.[1]
On the late night of 16 August, 1994, Bryce woke up from the pain in his leg, and while going to get his hot water bottle, he saw a light coming from the Riddle House through the kitchen window, and went to investigate. He never lived to return to his cottage, as he was killed by Lord Voldemort there that night; no one in town knew where he disappeared to.[1] After Frank's death, its sole occupant, the fate of this cottage is unknown.
Behind the scenes[]
- In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Bryce's cottage is more of an urban household, two stories high. However, based on the image from Pottermore, it was a one story, small building.
