A frog is an amphibian that is known for its exceptional jumping abilities.[1]
History[]
During the 1989–1990 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Jacob's sibling released some Frog Spawn Soap into the baths in the Prefects' Bathroom, which caused the bathroom to become full of frogs. They did this in order to appease Peeves, so he would give them the Vault portrait in exchange for unleashing various forms of chaos upon the school.[2] Also at Hogwarts during this school year, the singer Celestina Warbeck got a frog stuck in her throat after accidentally drinking some Frog Spawn Soap, that had to be vanished by Jacob's sibling with Anapneo.[3]
During the 1990–1991 school year, a wizard called Olivier Kikkert was a frog Animagus who was arrested for robbery, and was placed on trial in the Wizengamot of the British Ministry of Magic for his crimes. His case was investigated by Amelia Bones, the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.[4]
The Weasley family had a big green pond filled with frogs in their garden at The Burrow.[5]
During the summer holidays of 1994, when Harry Potter visited The Burrow, a fish tank on the windowsill that had previously held frog spawn held instead a single extremely large frog.[6]
In early August 1995, Hedwig caught a dead frog and brought it home, but Harry Potter asked her to leave off it, as he had work for her.[7]
Frogs in the Wizarding World[]
The brain of a frog was used as a potion ingredient. In October 1992, some third years accidentally plastered frog brain all over the ceiling in Dungeon Five. Argus Filch had to spend all morning cleaning it.[8]
Frog Choir[]
The Frog Choir were a singing group of Hogwarts students conducted by Professor Filius Flitwick. They usually practised in the Great Hall. The choir was very talented, being able to both sing fluently in Latin as well as polyphonically. Despite this group's name, they actually used toads instead of frogs (although toads are a species of frog).[9][10]
Frog Parts Mixture[]
The Frog Parts Mixture was a potion made of various frog parts.[10]
Frog Spawn Soap[]
Frog Spawn Soap was a joke product that was carried by Zonko's Joke Shop. It was presumably soap, filled with frog's eggs or spawn. Ron Weasley and Harry Potter purchased some on a trip to Hogsmeade in 1994 on a whim.[11]
Frog-rabbit hybrids[]
If Conjuration was not performed correctly, mistakes such as Frog-Rabbit hybrids could occur, explainable by the Principle of Artificianimate Quasi-Dominance.[12]
