- "He's got flu and some Third years accidentally plastered frog brains all over the ceiling of Dungeon Five; he's been cleaning all morning..."
- — Nearly Headless Nick on Argus Filch to Harry Potter[src]
Frog brains were the brains of frogs. They were used as an ingredient in potions, such as in the dubious Baruffio's Brain Elixir[1] and the Essence of Insanity.[2]
History[]
In 1992, some third years accidentally plastered frog brains all over the ceiling of Dungeon Five, a Potions dungeon. The Caretaker Argus Filch had to spend the morning cleaning up the mess.[3]
During the Calamity in the late 2010s or early 2020s, a bag full of frog brains in Caerphilly, Wales, was multiplied through the Doubling Charm, with the multiplied brains threatening to bury the town. A Calamity Investigator working for the Statute of Secrecy Task Force travelled to the town and reversed the charm in time, saving the town. The investigator then brought the greatly multiplied frog brains back to the task force to use the new stockpile as potion ingredients.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- In Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, it is also an ingredient of the Cure for Boils; adding to many of them can make the potion bubble. This contradicts the recipe given on Pottermore and the books, although it is possible they are used in a unique or alternative recipe of the potion.
