Gawrloc was a female half-giant who served as the final obstacle in the third challenge of the Intercontinental Wizard's Cup.[1]
Biography[]
At some point in her life, Gawrloc killed a dragon with her bare hands and used its bones, scales, and teeth to make a battle axe.[1]
During the final challenge of the Intercontinental Wizard's Cup in 2012, the teams had to find a treasure hidden in the depths of the Forbidden Forest. The only goal was to be the first to open the chest, claiming victory for their school. To serve as guardian of the chest, Hogwarts sought the help of Gawrloc.[1]
During the challenge, Gawrloc defended the treasure chest, using her natural endurance, spell resistance, superhuman strength, and large battle axe. She fended off Kenji Kobayashi from the Mahoutokoro team, and Zack Johnson from Ilvermorny, knocking them both out.[1]
Eventually, the surviving members of Team Hogwarts — Cassandra Vole, Daniel Page, and a Muggle-born student — arrived at the chest. However, when they tried to open it, Gawrloc surprised them. The students battled the half-giant but couldn't even slow her down. Remembering what Rubeus Hagrid had told them about a giant's eyes, they decided to cast the Conjunctivitis Curse on Gawrloc. Cassandra distracted Gawrloc by provoking her, allowing the student to cast the curse, successfully blinding the giant temporarily. In her desperation, Gawrloc swung her axe towards Cassandra, but Daniel pushed her out of the way, getting hit and knocked out instead.[1]
Cassandra and the student realised they needed to use the forest to defeat Gawrloc. After another attempt, they managed to trap her with the surrounding Devil's Snare. Gawrloc admitted defeat, and the pair made their way to the chest. While bound by the Devil's Snare, Gawrloc witnessed a confrontation between the students and Viggo Victor, who stood in front of the chest but was defeated before actually opening it. Ivy Warrington then came and saw Gawrloc already defeated, and expressed regret at not being able to fight a giant.[1]
Gawrloc was present at the tournament's celebration in the Great Hall, where the Intercontinental Trophy was presented to the winning team. After the award ceremony, Headmistress McGonagall thanked her for her help and enthusiasm during the challenge, asked if her eyes were doing better, and recommended that the Hogwarts matron, Poppy Pomfrey, take a look at her.[1]
Physical description[]
Being a half-giant, Gawrloc was immensely tall. She had long brown hair and green eyes, a prominent nose with a wart on it and massive teeth coming out of her mouth.[1]
