This female Qilin was owned by Gellert Grindelwald.[1]
Biography[]
In 1932, this Qilin was born to a mother in the Tianzi Mountains in Kweilin, China, and had a twin sister. Newton Scamander helped their mother give birth; however, he was interrupted by Gellert Grindelwald's acolytes, who killed the mother Qilin and took this Qilin, with Newt escaping with her sister, whose birth they were unaware of.[1]
Gellert Grindelwald's acolytes gave him this Qilin at Nurmengard, where he quickly slit the Qilin's throat after it refused to bow to him, with Queenie Goldstein watching.[1] He then observed visions in its blood. Afterwards, he used necromancy to revive and control the dead Qilin in a pool of water inside the castle, with Anton Vogel, Vinda Rosier and Credence Barebone watching.[1]
Anton Vogel then took the Qilin to the walk of the Qilin in Bhutan, in order to rig the election; since Grindelwald was controlling the dead Qilin, it falsely bowed before him, with him initially winning the election. However, with the help of Credence Barebone (who defected from him), Albus Dumbledore and his allies, his cheating was exposed, Newt exposed the Qilin as dead and bewitched, and when Anton Vogel attempted to show the audience that the Qilin was in fact genuine, it died again in his arms.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- Although the screenplay states that the revived Qilin looked healthy and whole, aside from the eyes still being vacant, the film went further in how different it looked from the actual living Qilin. The revived Qilin had a darker skin tone and did not look healthy nor whole compared to the actual living Qilin, and had vacant black eyes as opposed to expressive brown ones.
