The Deathly Hallows hunt (c. 1899–1945) was a mission started in 1899 by Gellert Grindelwald to obtain all three Deathly Hallows and become the Master of Death.[1]
History[]
Background information[]
- "Course, Grindelwald scarpered. He had a bit of a track record already."
- — Aberforth explaing how Grindelwald fled the aftermath of the duel[src]
Grindelwald standing beside Albus as friends
After developing a friendship with Albus Dumbledore and wanting to overpower the Non-magic world for the greater good, he and Albus talked about obtaining all three of the Deathly Hallows and becoming the most powerful duo in the world.
- "Gellert and I had plans to go away with each other, but my brother didn't approve and one night confronted us. Voices were raised, threats made, Aberforth drew his wand, which was foolish. I drew my wand which was even more foolish. Gellert just laughed, no one had heard Ariana come down the stairs, can't say it was certain it was my... spell, doesn't really matter, one moment she was there, and the next she was gone."
- — Albus Dumbledore recalling the duel to Newt[src]
Gellert and Albus made these plans to go away with each other but this took a turn for the worst when they got into a fight at Godric's Hollow, resulting in a three-way duel between Gellert, Albus and Aberforth Dumbledore, which ended in the death of Ariana Dumbledore. After this happened, Gellert fled the scene in order to start this journey.[1]
Mission for the Elder Wand[]
- "He read Gregorovitch's mind, and I saw this young bloke perched on a windowsill, and he fired a curse at Gregorovitch and jumped out of sight. He stole it, he stole whatever You-Know-Who's after. And I... I think I've seen him somewhere."
- — Harry, telling Hermione and Ron what happened that night[src]
Grindelwald fleeing the wand shop
Sometime in between 1899 and 1926 at night time, Gellert Grindelwald successfully obtained the Elder Wand after breaking into Gregorovitch Zauberstäbe and stunning Mykew Gregorovitch, leaving him in shock. Grindelwald hopped out a window and disappeared.[2]
Aftermath[]
It is unknown if Gellert Grindelwald obtained the Resurrection Stone and the Cloak of Invisibility, but it isn't likely. The Elder Wand was obtained by Albus Dumbledore after winning the duel with Gellert in 1945.
