- "Hermione screamed in pain, and Harry turned his wand on her in time to see a jeweled goblet tumbling from her grip. But as it fell, it split, became a shower of goblets, so that a second later, with a great clatter, the floor was covered in identical cups rolling in every direction, the original impossible to discern amongst them."
- — Description of the Geminio curse used with the Flagrante curse[src]
The Gemino Curse is a curse that causes whatever object it is cast on to duplicate itself whenever touched (and hence it is used as a security measure for Gringotts treasure, see above). It should be noted that the target is not duplicated twice each time but many times per duplication (producing a "shower" of duplicates with each touch)
Etymology
Latin gemininare meaning "to double." This is appropriate, as the spell duplicates the target. Gemini is also the Latin name for the Twins, a constellation and third sign of the zodiac.[1]
Behind the scenes
