- "Mr Osric is prone to flattery. I daresay it's one of the reasons he's risen so far at the Ministry."

George Osric (d. 1 September 1890) was a high-ranking official in the British Ministry of Magic in the late 19th century.[5]
Biography[]
Early life[]
George was born into a family of unknown wizarding descent sometime before or during the 19th century. He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in his youth, where he was Sorted into Hufflepuff House. Known to have embodied many qualities prized by its famous founder, not only was he helpful towards his friends, unwaveringly loyal and known to be trustworthy, but he was also in possession of a sharp wit, capable of solving even the most difficult of riddles.[5]
Ministry career[]
At some point after his seventeenth birthday, George found employment at the British Ministry of Magic, where he would eventually rise to occupy a high office at the governing body. At some point, he met and befriended Eleazar and Miriam Fig, with whom he remained close for several decades.[5]
On 1 September 1890, just as the 1890–1891 school year at Hogwarts was about to start, George was given secret instructions to meet with Eleazar in a London alley. He mistakenly Apparated instead into the West End, scaring a few theatre-goers, before landing at the right place. He joined Eleazar and a new fifth-year Hogwarts student in the carriage as a driver took them to the school.[4]
During the ride there, he revealed that Eleazar's since-deceased wife, Miriam, had written to him asking about what the Ministry knew about goblin agitator Ranrok's activities and, shortly afterwards, had sent him an item he could not open. The new student inexplicably opened the item when they held it, revealing it contained a key. Suddenly, a dragon attacked the carriage midair, destroying half the carriage and killing George.[4]

George was a clever, charming, sociable fellow who was helpful and steadfastly loyal to his friends.[5] He was prone to flattering people, which helped him earn promotions at work.[4]
