This colony of giants was located in the remote mountainous regions of Northern Europe.[1]

History[]

Early history and decline[]

In the past, the giants had around a hundred different tribes located around the world. However, by the end of the twentieth century, only one colony of giants remained, comprised of all the surviving giants and located in a remote mountainous region in Northern Europe (possibly somewhere in the Ural Mountains).[1]

By 1995, the tribe's population numbered around eighty, although that number was dwindling due to continued infighting, usually for food, mates, or old grudges remaining between members of previous tribes, but sometimes for even more trivial matters such as better sleeping places near the fireplace or simply for no reason other than to satisfy their lust for violence.[1]

The magical community, the majority of whom detested and feared giants for their atrocities committed in the past, decided to leave the colony isolated and unsupervised, seeing no reason to attack them as long as they did not cause any trouble for them. Muggle mountain-climbers who approach this colony would lose their lives, but such incidents were written off as accidents.[1]

Second Wizarding War[]

The Gurg of the giants at the time of the Second Wizarding War was Karkus, who was approached by Rubeus Hagrid and Olympe Maxime, acting as representatives of Albus Dumbledore in an attempt to form an alliance. However, that same year Karkus was killed and replaced as Gurg by Golgomath, who allied the remaining giants with Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters instead.[1] On 2 May 1998, the colony participated in the Battle of Hogwarts along with the Dark Lord and his Death Eaters.[2] It is unknown what happened to the participating colony members after Voldemort was defeated and killed after the battle.

21st century[]

Despite their small numbers, the giant colony managed to survive into the late 2010s and early 2020s. During the Calamity, a Calamity Investigator working for the Statute of Secrecy Task Force liaised with the colony to assess the Calamity's effects on them. The giants engaged in several hours of violence against the Calamity Investigator, as they believed the Calamity was caused by wizards in general. However, the Calamity Investigator eventually managed to convince the colony that the incident wasn't their fault, enabling them to effectively work with the colony.[3]
