Ginny Weasley's wand was made of yew[1] wood with an unknown length and core material.

History[]

GinnyExpectoPatronum

Ginny conjuring a horse Patronus with her wand

Like most wizards and witches in Great Britain, Ginny likely purchased it at the age of eleven before beginning her education at Hogwarts in 1992. She was able to perform powerful magic with her wand, such as casting a masterful Bat-Bogey Hex,[2][3] and a fully corporeal Patronus in the shape of a horse.[4]

Ginny also wielded this wand in many battles of the Second Wizarding War such as: the Battle of the Department of Mysteries,[5] the Battle of the Astronomy Tower,[6] and the Battle of Hogwarts where she duelled Bellatrix Lestrange with Hermione and Luna.[7][8][9]

Behind the scenes[]

  • J. K. Rowling revealed a picture via her official Twitter account on April 18, 2016 showing her idea of some of the main character's wand designs, where Ginny's wand wood was revealed for the first time to be made from yew. Interestingly enough, Harry Potter's wife and his mortal enemy both share the same wand wood.
  • While Ginny's wand is never described within the novels, the wand prop replica used in the films has a black colouration with a spiral that serves as its handle, followed by a stretch of crosshatching that blends into the shaft.
