Gladwin Moon was the caretaker at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the late 19th century.

Biography[]

When he was a child in Korea,[5] he suffered a trauma due to a Demiguise and developed a secret fear of them. Gladwin attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where he was a quite popular and interesting student, though he bullied Piers Pemberton for his hair, calling him 'Pigtail Piers'. Despite the cruel nature of his actions, Moon didn't believe he was bullying Pemberton at all and considered him a friend. Moon was not successful after he left the school, and returned to be the Hogwarts caretaker, a role he looked down upon.[3] He became caretaker some time after 1876, after his predecessor, Rancorous Carpe, resigned for "health reasons".[6] During his time as Hogwarts caretaker, numerous Demiguise Statues started popping up. He asked a student to investigate the statues, as his fear of Demiguises prevented him from doing so. In return, he taught the student the Unlocking Charm. After the student had found all the Demiguise Statues, they were confronted by Pemberton, who had made the statues as a way to get back at his former bully. Moon was surprised by this, but, after having a talk with Pemberton in the Three Broomsticks Inn, he claimed they were friends again and the incident was settled.

Physical description[]

Moon was pale-skinned with black hair and brown eyes. As caretaker he wore brown work robes.[3]

Personality and traits[]

Moon was considered interesting when he was a student at Hogwarts, but he grew to be very arrogant to a comical level and pretentious. He was oblivious to it and considered himself very debonair, possessing a very intense sense of self-confidence. He was also inadequate at his caretaker duties.[3]
