This gnome lived in the Magical Creatures Reserve in the 1980s.[1]

Biography[]

In the 1980s or early 1990s, Jacob's sibling would often bond with and feed this Gnome.[1]

During the 1986–1987 school year, Argus Filch discovered that the Training Grounds at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry had become infested with gnomes, with this discovery being observed by Rubeus Hagrid. Knowing that Jacob's sibling had bonded with this gnome, Hagrid contacted them and asked to meet them at his hut, where he explained the situation to them. Jacob's sibling was willing to help, particularly due to their previous experience helping de-gnome The Burrow, but questioned why they weren't letting Filch take care of the problem himself. Hagrid clarified that Filch only cared about solving the problem by any means necessary and had no qualms about hurting the gnomes to do so. Hagrid stated that, if they couldn't remove the gnomes fast enough or were so fast that they missed even one, Filch would step in to deal with them himself.[1]

Hagrid and Jacob's sibling discussed which de-gnoming techniques would work best for this situation, determining that simply picking up and throwing them was the best method, as, although it was a slower technique, it was safer for the gnomes involved. Jacob's sibling offered to bring this gnome with them to help, to which Hagrid agreed, hoping that this gnome would help keep the other gnomes calm. After collecting this gnome, Jacob's sibling met with Hagrid at the Training Grounds and were exposed to the full extent of the gnome infestation. Hagrid stated that gnomes could be a nuisance, but that it was just in their nature, although he asserted that he wished they wouldn't swear so much, much to Jacob's sibling's surprise. Hagrid explained that gnomes only swore if someone taught them how to do so before getting them both back on task to de-gnome the Training Grounds before Filch could intervene.[1]

Jacob's sibling and Hagrid seemingly managed to successfully de-gnome the Training Grounds, but this gnome still seemed to be trying to tell them something. This gnome eventually pointed them in the direction of an irritable one-eared gnome that they had missed. Upon noticing the pair, the one-eared gnome swore at them before darting back into its burrow. At that moment, Filch arrived at the Training Grounds and confronted Hagrid regarding what he was doing there. When Hagrid explained that they were attempting to help Filch with the gnome infestation, Filch angrily retaliated that they had let the one-eared gnome escape before asserting that the presence of this gnome meant they were in league with the gnomes. Jacob's sibling attempted to diffuse the situation by explaining that this gnome belonged to them and wasn't involved with the invasion, but Filch still demanded to know what exactly they were planning to do.[1]

Hagrid attempted to explain that they were trying to de-gnome Hogwarts safely without resorting to Filch's dangerous methods, but Filch retorted that their safe methods hadn't worked and had allowed a rogue gnome to run free, making his job harder. Filch asserted that it was now time to do things his way, declaring that he was planning to release a Jarvey on the Grounds to take care of the rogue gnome. Knowing that this plan would result in the rogue gnome's death, Jacob's sibling convinced Filch to give them and Hagrid one more chance to safely catch the rogue gnome themselves by asserting that the Jarvey would just create more mess for Filch to clean up, although Filch threatened that they would only get one more chance before he released the Jarvey.[1]

Once Filch had left, Jacob's sibling and Hagrid discussed where the rogue gnome might have went, with Hagrid noting that it could have travelled anywhere in Hogwarts. Jacob's sibling offered to get in contact with some of their friends to see if they could find the gnome while Hagrid continued to search on his own, to which Hagrid agreed. Jacob's sibling and this gnome met with Charlie Weasley, Tulip Karasu, Ben Copper, Penny Haywood, Barnaby Lee, and Merula Snyde in the Courtyard and explained the situation regarding the rogue gnome to them. Jacob's sibling asserted that, even if they did catch the gnome, they needed to find a place for it to stay first.[1]

After a discussion of where the gnome could be moved to, Jacob's sibling suggested that they could take the rogue gnome to The Burrow once they captured it, as, despite the frequent attempts to de-gnome the garden, the gnomes always returned to it, with Charlie theorising that his father, Arthur Weasley, was too soft on them due to finding them amusing. After reminiscing on their de-gnoming of the garden before the party at The Burrow, Charlie agreed that The Burrow would likely be the safest place for the rogue gnome, but argued that they couldn't put it in the garden there without permission. Jacob's sibling suggested that they could convince Charlie's parents to allow them to move the rogue gnome to The Burrow, to which Charlie asserted that they could never convince his mother, Molly Weasley, but they might be able to convince Arthur. Charlie claimed that it would be best to try to convince Arthur without him for the time being, as Arthur was mad at him for accidentally breaking a Muggle blender. Jacob's sibling offered to bring this gnome with them to help convince Arthur, with Charlie stating that, if this gnome could make Arthur laugh, he'd be more than willing to let the rogue gnome stay.[1]

Charlie revealed that Arthur currently happened to be at Hogwarts to search for a Muggle blender in the Artefact Room in order to replace the one broken by Charlie. Jacob's sibling and this gnome travelled to the Artefact Room to meet with Arthur while Hagrid continued to search for the rogue gnome. After introducing this gnome to Arthur, Arthur professed his amusement at the creature before explaining to Jacob's sibling about Muggle lawn gnomes. Jacob's sibling explained the situation regarding the rogue gnome to Arthur, who expressed his desire to help, but admitted that Molly would never agree to it due to her great dislike for gnomes. While trying to convince Arthur to agree to their plan, this gnome entertained him without resorting to swears and also located a replacement Muggle blender for him. In response, Arthur agreed to help relocate the rogue gnome after deciding how much of the truth to tell Molly.[1]

With the gnome's new home secure, Jacob's sibling and this gnome met with Charlie, who had tracked the rogue gnome to the Care of Magical Creatures classroom. Confirming that the rogue gnome was likely still in the area due to the presence of fresh dirt piles, Charlie and Jacob's sibling discussed strategies to draw the gnome's attention, deciding to create enough of a commotion by pounding on the ground to draw it to the surface so that Charlie could grab it. However, although Jacob's sibling's pounding did successfully bring the rogue gnome to the surface, Charlie was too slow to catch the gnome, which darted away back underground. Determining that they likely wouldn't be able to grab the gnome with their bare hands, the pair discussed spells they could use to immobilise the gnome and make it easier to carry. Jacob's sibling realised they could use the Gnomes to Lawn Gnomes spell they had been taught by Professor Minerva McGonagall, deciding to go to the Transfiguration Classroom in order to brush up on the spell before trying it on the rogue gnome.[1]

Jacob's sibling and this gnome met with Professor McGonagall in the Transfiguration Classroom and informed her of the situation. McGonagall suggested that the gnome might need something more familiar in order to draw it out, with Jacob's sibling realising that this gnome could help distract the rogue gnome for long enough to cast the spell on it. Jacob's sibling asked McGonagall to help them brush up on the casting of the Gnomes to Lawn Gnomes spell, with McGonagall suggesting that they use this gnome as practice. Although Jacob's sibling was initially uncomfortable about testing the spell on their gnome, McGonagall stressed that the strong bond they formed with this gnome led this gnome to trust that Jacob's sibling would keep it safe. Jacob's sibling managed to successfully transfigure this gnome into a lawn gnome before reversing the spell so that they and this gnome could meet with Charlie to finally capture the rogue gnome.[1]

Jacob's sibling and this gnome met with Charlie on the Hogwarts Quidditch pitch, where Charlie had tracked down the rogue gnome again through following the sound of cursing. After going over the plan one more time, this gnome managed to draw out and distract the rogue gnome. After using the rogue gnome's missing ear to differentiate it from this gnome, Jacob's sibling successfully managed to cast the Gnomes to Lawn Gnomes spell on it, trapping it as as a lawn gnome. At that moment, Filch arrived and claimed that Jacob's sibling's plan had failed, believing this gnome to be the rogue gnome. Jacob's sibling finally managed to convince Filch that this gnome wasn't the rogue gnome and that they had successfully captured the real rogue gnome using the Gnomes to Lawn Gnomes spell, as the resulting lawn gnome was missing an ear, just like the rogue gnome was. Filch begrudgingly admitted that Jacob's sibling's plan had worked, although he claimed it was only because the threat of him using a Jarvey on the rogue gnome had motivated them to work harder.[1]

Jacob's sibling, Charlie, and this gnome helped deliver the rogue gnome to The Burrow, where they met up with Hagrid. Hagrid explained that he had travelled there after running into an angry Filch, who had been muttering about gnomes and The Burrow. Jacob's sibling and Charlie explained their capture of the rogue gnome to a pleased Hagrid, with Jacob's sibling crediting this gnome for its key role in helping them capture the rogue. After taking some time to appreciate this gnome and thank it for its help, Jacob's sibling reversed the Gnomes to Lawn Gnomes spell on the rogue gnome, turning it back to normal. The group introduced the rogue gnome to its new home, although it still seemed somewhat uncomfortable. Hagrid suggested that the rogue gnome could still use some encouragement, with Jacob's sibling and this gnome convincing it that it was free to dig all the holes it wanted in the garden. As the rogue gnome finally settled into its new home, Hagrid commended Jacob's sibling and this gnome for their help, asserting that he could always count on Jacob's sibling when it came to helping out creatures.[1]

They were one of the Magical Creature that Jacob's sibling and Liz Tuttle thought about showing off for their demonstration of the Hogwarts Hippogriff Club's Care of Magical Creatures skills.[2]
