Goldstein was the surname of a wizarding family. It had both magical and Muggle heritage,[1] and may have been an old, large family, as it had branches in both the United States and Great Britain.[5][6][7] However, it remains unknown in which country the family originated. The family may have also been Jewish, as at least one member considered himself to be a Jew.[8]
History[]
Global wizarding war[]
Queenie and Tina's parents died of Dragon Pox when the sisters were young.[9] They also had a grandfather who bred owls. Porpentina and Queenie attended Ilvermorny School for Witches and Wizards, though they were in different houses (Queenie was in Pukwudgie while Tina was in Thunderbird).[10] The two shared an apartment in New York City in the 1920s.
Porpentina was worked as an Auror for the MACUSA in 1920s New York.[11] Tina was temporarily removed from her position as an Auror after attacking a No-Maj who was beating her young adult son. After this incident, she was assigned as a Federal Wand Permit Office.[11] Queenie, however, worked at MACUSA as an unglamorous secretary, making coffee and “unjinxing” the bathrooms.[11] But Queenie's real gift was the ability to read minds with little effort, making her a gifted Legilimens.
Both Tina and Queenie were involved in the events surrounding Newt Scamander, a rampaging Obscurus, and Gellert Grindelwald.[11] After these events, Tina proved her abilities and she was reinstated as an Auror. During this time, Queenie meet and fell in love with a No-Maj by the name of Jacob Kowalski.[11] While Jacob did not want to marry Queenie due to the ramifications of breaking the Wizarding law regarding marriages to non-wizard folk, Queenie was adamant that they do marry and bewitched Jacob to make him change his mind. While visiting Newt Scamander, the spell was revealed and after a fight, the pair parted.[12]
During this time, Tina travelled to Europe in order to investigate Credence Barebone, while there she ran into Newt once again.[12] Before long Tina, Queenie, and others were are all at Grindelwald's rally where Aurors and the Grindelwald faction clashed. Leta's attack on Grindelwald gave Tina, Newt, Kama, Nagina, Theseus, and Jacob a chance to escape and they united with Nicolas Flamel and extinguished Grinderwald's fire and saved Paris.[12] Queenie fell under the spell of Gellert Grindelwald and left Jacob behind.[12]
Tina later became the wife of Newt Scamander; she and Newt retired to Dorset. They have three Kneazles, named 'Hoppy', 'Miller', and 'Mauler'.[13]

Etymology[]
Goldstein is a German Jewish ornamental surname meaning "gold stone", from the German words Gold, "gold", and Stein, "stone".[14]
Behind the scenes[]
- Jews in Germany adopted family names in the late 18th century and early 19th century as a result of government policy and urbanisation.[15] Some of these family names were "ornamental" in the sense that they were created by combining two words, generally colours, metals, plants, and other nature-themed things.[15]
